Activities 2007/08

Highlights of the Annual Plan

Leadership Development:

  • Promote use of the Leadership Self-Review Tool and serve as a source of support to boards in its implementation.
  • Promote the use of the Leadership Framework of leader competencies and practices to guide the design of training and the development of leaders. The framework will underpin all the work of the institute.

Professional Learning:

  • Develop an orientation program for newly appointed supervisory officers and directors of education to support tri-level leadership. Program content and delivery will be coordinated with programs developed by member associations.
  • Organize targeted professional development events in areas of identified priority.
  • Pilot, on a limited basis, an educator exchange program driven by a rigorous action research foundation.

Research:

  • Commission research on two key leadership topics: factors that support school instructional leadership, and succession planning.
  • Assess the impact of the December 2006 conference, specifically,the implementation of the Leadership Self-Review Tool and of the board plans developed at the conference.

Communications:

  • Develop a strategic communications plan.
  • Develop a calendar of province-wide professional development activities for leaders.
  • Provide opportunities for facilitated dialogue to build a community of effective practices.
  • Refine and enhance the institute website.
