Activities 2006/07

Leadership Development

During 2006/07, the institute held two leadership development events,titled "Multiple Perspectives" and "Collaboration in Strategic Leadership." The first of these, held in May 2006 for 12 boards, engaged board teams in reflective and planning work in the areas of adaptive leadership and building sustainability. This event was followed in December by a professional development event featuring the provincial launch of the institute's Leadership Self-Review Tool. Event speakers and session leaders included acknowledged leadership experts such as Ron Heifetz, Ken Leithwood, Andy Hargreaves, and Dean Fink.

Leadership Self-Review Tool

The institute's Leadership Self-Review Tool, launched in 2006, sets out successful leadership development practices for school boards, based both on published research and an examination of successful approaches in Ontario and other jurisdictions. A gap-analysis tool, it enables leaders to rate their own board's performance against these suggested practices and to identify the relative priority that selected practices should have in their respective boards.

Leadership Website

The institute began development of its leadership website, which is scheduled for launch in the summer of 2007. This site will serve as an ongoing resource for leaders in education and will feature a wide variety of print and electronic resources. It will also provide updates and information on news and upcoming programs planned by the Institute for Education Leadership.
